Is Nude Better?



Nude Food Lunch Trials



So the last two weeks we have been trialling what is called a nude food lunch box. This usually consists of a lunch that has no pre-packaged items such as LCM’s, snack packs and the likes.

We started this trial for our 11 year old son in the hopes that his energy levels and power of concentration in his classroom would rise and we would have less meetings with his teacher that start in he needs to pay more attention and finish in, we know he is intelligent but he needs to write some of it down.  The second reason was because he can be a sometimes picky and always very slow eater when it comes to dinner. This was our way of increasing the vegetable and fruit intake per day in the hopes for a healthier boy.



This is what his lunch box consisted of for the first week. The only difference was made on Friday when he also took a flavoured coconut water drink due to Friday being the day he plays interschool basketball.


Carrot and Celery Sticks with french onion dip, Grapes, cheese, crackers and yogurt.







So I told Patrick that the first week we would trial the food I chose and see what he likes/dislikes and make small changes from then. We did really well the only things he was not fond of was the celery we had put with his carrot and as we went into week two he found he was not really fond of honeydew melon either. I was happy that he had told me and we worked together to find items to replace those without bringing junk back to his lunch.


Week two’s lunches changed a few times until we got it right.

Rock-melon, Apple, Crackers with cheese and Vegemite, hard boiled egg and carrot sticks.








I wanted to make sure that the results of this new lunch were not just making an impact at home so I set up a meeting with his teacher to get the down low as they say. I told his teacher we had seen a major difference to his eating when it came to dinner since a few days after we started, the meals were taking less and less time to be eaten and he was able to eat larger quantities without much complaint. We also found his energy levels were higher, and he was taking the initiative to do his homework and assignments without the constant reminders he usually needed. His teacher told me he had seen a big change in his classroom behaviour and in turn also the effort he put into the sport he played for the interschool basketball team. His marks were climbing and he was achieving much more when it came to showing his work.


So all in all I think the changes we have made have been of benefit and we will continue to go nude for the foreseeable future. I will keep you updated on how it goes! And might even add a few recipies to our blog/facebook page to help with making the lunch making a bit quicker.
